Rina Dechter is a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at University of California, Irvine, where she is also Associate Dean for Research at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS). Dechter鈥檚 work is focused on automated reasoning in artificial intelligence with a particular focus on constraint satisfaction and satisfiability, combinatorial optimization, and probabilistic inference.

Dechter's awards include the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator Award and election as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Her co-authored 1991 paper, Temporal Constraint Networks, received the 2020 Classic Paper Award from the Artificial Intelligence Journal and remains highly influential in the field.

Dechter earned her B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA.
